Nneka

Nneka Lucia Egbuna born 24 December, 1980 is a German-Nigerian hip hop/soul singer and song writer. Popularly known as Nneka, the young musician who sings in both English and Igbo first gained public attention in 2004 when she performed as an opening act for dance hall/reggae star, Sean Paul at Hamburg Stadtpark after which she went on to release her debut EP, The Uncomfortable Truth under the Yo Mama recording company.

In 2005, she released her first album entitled Victim of Truth in Germany, England, France, Netherlands, Nigeria and Japan simultaneously which garnered rave reviews from the media that even the UK`s Sunday Times declared it “the year`s most criminally overlooked album” and gave a favorable comparison of it to Lauryn Hill`s “The Miseducation.”

She has gone on to release other albums; No Longer at Ease, To and Fro, Concrete Jungle as well as Soul is Heavy. The musician whose songs reflects mostly on her history and life in Nigeria as well as the time she spent in Western Europe, has gone on world tours and her songs have broken into top music charts worldwide.

Nneka who some commentators have compared to Erykah Badu, Neneh Cherry and Floetry, has gotten various nominations including Channel O Music Video Awards, MOBO Awards and has won some such as Museke Online Africa Music Award (Reggae) as well as Nigerian Entertainment Awards (best indigenous artiste).
